If you mean how do you know beforehand… word of mouth is probably the best. There are forums that offer reviews, not a bad starting place. We investigated THOROUGHLY four nursing homes before finding my Dad’s placement, we put his name down at three and got offered a place at two of them on the same day; all other factors were equal between the two places, we had visited them both on a formal (pre-arranged) and informal basis to see them in action as it were. We got a better “gut feeling” during those visits from the one we ultimately chose, but had good reports from families we knew with residents in both. We talked to other families when Dad was in respite too, some of those had very poor experiences in particular facilities… we marked those down as ones to avoid.
