[glow=red,2,300]Prologue[/glow]
I looked at my mother, her golden curls dull, and unwashed. She squeezed my hand.
"Stay with my Honey, Elley, please....please!", she cried, her tears flowing faster now, her blue eyes pleading. I opened my mouth, my dry tongue felt fat, and my lips seemed cracked. My thoart hurt when I talked, but I had to tell her.
"Mom, I'll wake up, I promise. Can I have some juice though before I sleep?", she laughs softly, and calls the nurse. Glenda, our nurse, walks in, and gets some juice for me. They dribble it into my mouth, and it takes a few mintues before I am sastisfied, and lay my head back down. My mom takes my hand once more, and I watch her eyes plead me from my decision. I close my weary eyes, my eyelids happy to be resting. I then fall into a deep sleep. Letting myself be wrapped into the comfortable blanket of darkness. My mother's words whispering in my ear.
"Goodbye my Elley. I love you, I love you......."
[glow=blue,2,300]Chapter One[/glow]
Maddy ran through the flields, her blond hair glowing as the sun rosee up from behind the tall hill at the edge of the horizion. Brownie, our geldling pranced around her, snorting, and hopping, causing her to laugh. Her laugh was contagious, even from across the field. I laughed with her, the laughter filling the air, the warm sun on my skin. My eyes teared up still though. Warm, soft tears ran down my cheeks, and their salty taste touched my lips. My daughter was beautiful, and so was my young son, but I would never forget the one I lost. Wipeing away the tears, I embraced my child when she ran up the porch steps, and into my arms. For a brief second I remembered another little girl, one who would hug me every day, give me kisses, and make me bouques of flowes. This littler girl gave me laughter, and love everyday, and she would bring me home bouques of leaves, horse hair, or staw.
"Mommey, can we go see the baby chickens now? Then can we brush Brownie, and I can ride Marigold?", Maddy asked, her mouth still open, ready to ask a million more questions.
"Sure, but let's eat breakfast first, wake up daddy, and your brother. I'll get some eggs, and bacon going.", I said, a small plan forming in my head. She nodded, and ran through the screen door behind me. It slammed shut, and I chuckled. Going inside I set the table, and open our new fridge. I take out some eggs, and some bacon.
